One of four highly revered shrines in Uttarkhand, the temple is located at a height of 3,581 metres above sea level in the Rudra Himalayan range. According to officials, more than 13,000 people were at Kedarnath during the heavy rain on June 14-16. Here are some of the images of the shrine.

The picture is taken at 1880's.

Kedarnath temple is one of the holiest Hindu temples dedicated to the god Shiva and is located on the Garhwal Himalayan range near the Mandakini river in Kedarnath in India. Due to extreme weather conditions, the temple is open only between the end of April (Akshay trutya) to Kartik Purnima every year. During the winters, the vigrahas (deities) from Kedarnath temple are brought to Ukhimath and worshipped there for six months. Lord Shiva is worshipped as Kedarnath, the 'Lord of Kedar Khand', the historical name of the region.

The temple is not directly accessible by road and has to be reached by a 14 kilometres uphill trek from Gaurikund. Pony and manchan service is also available. The temple have been built by Pandavas and revived by Adi Sankaracharya and is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. The temple is one of the four major sites in India's Chota Char Dham pilgrimage of Northern Himalayas.

HC::Consummation of relationship is a ground for marriage.

India news::Chennai, June 18: The Madras High Court has said that a valid marriage did not necessarily mean that "all the customary rights pertaining to the married couple are to be followed and subsequently solemnised". In the hearing a petition by a Muslim woman whose husband was refusing to pay her alimony claiming she was not his wife, Justice C S Karnan said if a woman over 18 had a sexual relationship with a man over 21 and became pregnant in the process she had every right to be considered his wife. Even in the absence of pregnancy if there was strong documentary evidence to show the existence of such a relationship then too the couple involved could be termed husband and wife, the court said, making it clear that if they separated the "husband" could not marry without getting a decree of divorce from the court. For solemnising a wedding, legal aspects should be placed on a higher scale than the customary aspects.

Two policemen and three ITBP personnel were killed during a rescue operation in Kedarnath. Bahuguna said all districts in Uttarakhand have been affected by bad rains and that rescue operations were on.
He also added that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has assured help.

The Ganga in Haridwar is now in spate. Highways linking Delhi and Haridwar, Rishikesh and Yamunotri and Gangotri and the Badrinath National Highway are blocked for now. There are about 20 roadblocks leading to Badrinath due to landslides and flash floods.
The Dehradun Met department says the state capital received a record 340 mm of rainfall on Monday and is expected to receive more heavy rains in the next 24 hours. Several roads, including the National Highway 24, have been blocked to avoid any more traffic jams.
"ITBP officers are engaged in rescue and relief efforts. Almost 100 officers have been deployed to different regions of the state. A medical camp has been set up for pilgrims trapped in the Gangotri area. They are also being provided free food. Our teams are also patrolling the roads warning people of dangerous areas," said RS Chandel, Commanding Officer, ITBP.

US is not in a rush to do War with Syria

The White House spoke today:

The US will not rush to war in Syria as it did in the past in the region, White House chief of staff Denis McDonough said Sunday.

"We have to be very discerning about what's in our interest and what outcome is best for us and the prices we're willing to pay to get to that place".

"We've rushed to war in this region(IRAQ) in the past, we're not going to do it here," he added, alluding to the March 2003 invasion of Iraq by then president George W. Bush under the pretext that Baghdad had weapons of mass destruction which turned out to be false.

The Obama administration is mulling over all options on the table barring boots on the ground in its handling of the Syrian conflict, as it concluded last week that the Syrian government had used chemical weapons, including the nerve agent sarin, against the opposition forces.

President Barack Obama has called the use of chemical weapons a "red line" that would trigger deeper US involvement in the Syrian conflict.
